BEVERLY HILLS, January 12, (THEWILL) – Feelers from Tuesday’s closed door session of the Senate have it that the 2016 budget proposal presented to a joint session of the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on December 22, 2015, is missing.
Sources say the disappearance of the budget document was announced by the Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume during the closed door session that lasted 90 minutes.
Buhari had last December presented the N6.08trn 2016 budget to the federal Parliament, but about two weeks later, news of the withdrawal of the budget pervaded the media landscape.
The Senators had expressed readiness to commence deliberation of the budget estimates today by time they would have returned from the Christmas and New Year holidays. This is ahead of the House of Representatives that had earlier scheduled the budget consideration for next week.
Meanwhile, President Buhari and the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, met briefly behind closed-door at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, THEWILL can report.
