2027: Kwankwaso Yet to Decide – Kano NNPP Chairman

July 14, (THEWILL) — The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Alhaji Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, has dismissed speculations that the party’s national leader and 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has made any definitive political decision ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Monday, Dungurawa described the speculation as premature, insisting that Kwankwaso has not revealed his intentions for the next election cycle.

“It is not yet time. We are in 2025, and the elections will hold in 2027. So why the hurry? Why are people asking questions about my Oga’s plans for 2027?” Dungurawa queried.

“When the time is right, my Oga, my leader, my political philosopher, will make his decision, and we, his loyal supporters, will follow him wherever he goes because we believe in his leadership and ideology,” he added.

Dungurawa also dispelled any notions of restlessness within the NNPP or the Kwankwasiyya movement regarding Kwankwaso’s political future. According to him, the former Kano governor remains in close consultation with his core supporters.

“Some people pretend to be our leader’s supporters, but the ones I know are not anxious. They are patient and confident that he will carry them along before taking any major decision,” he said.

Reacting to rumours that Kwankwaso may be in talks with other political parties about a possible merger or defection, the NNPP chairman said there was nothing unusual about the politician engaging in discussions with his counterparts.

“As a renowned politician, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso can speak to any politician. But talking does not translate into joining or merging with their parties,” Dungurawa clarified.

He stressed that such engagements are common in political circles and should not be misinterpreted as signs of defection or alliance.
