May 22, (THEWILL) – Posters promoting Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027 have surfaced across several strategic locations in Kano city.
The posters, bearing messages such as “2027: His Excellency Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for President, Federal Republic of Nigeria” and “2027: To Move Nigeria Forward, Seyi Makinde Is the Answer”, were prominently displayed along major roads including the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) route, Wappa Roundabout, Dangi Roundabout, and the popular Kantin Kwari textiles market.
Their emergence follows a press conference held in Kano by a group known as Nigeria Youths Awareness Group Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027), which declared its full support for Makinde’s purported presidential ambition.
Speaking at the briefing, the group’s National Secretary, Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, said Makinde remains the most viable candidate capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges come 2027.
“Given the current political permutations, we believe only Governor Seyi Makinde can move this country forward. We call on all patriotic Nigerians, irrespective of party affiliations, to rally behind him,” he said.
Abdullahi disclosed that the group had secured the backing of prominent political figures and stakeholders across the country, adding that the movement was rapidly gaining momentum.
“We have concluded all necessary arrangements—posters, billboards, handbills, and branded items are ready. By next week, in-sha Allah, we’ll flood the entire Northern region with our campaign materials,” he said.
According to him, the campaign rollout will begin in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, and Gombe states, before extending to the rest of the North and eventually the South.
Some Kano residents welcomed the initiative, noting that it would enrich political discourse ahead of the 2027 elections.
Alhaji Ibrahim Usman stated that Governor Makinde, as a citizen, has every right to contest for the presidency, while others, including Alhaji Abba Muhammadu and Mr. John Ezekiel, described the campaign as a welcome development that would give Nigerians more options at the polls.
Muhammadu added that based on Makinde’s reported “excellent performance” as Oyo State governor, he could be a strong contender for the presidency.
