January 09, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has summoned the minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to the Presidential Villa, a report by The Nation stated on Tuesday.
THEWILL reports that the invitation may not be unconnected to the ongoing scandal rocking the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
Tunji-Ojo had on Monday refuted the claim that a firm, New Planet Projects Ltd, allegedly owned by him received N438 million as “consultancy fees” related to the National Social Register contract, part of the N3 billion contracts awarded by the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.
President Tinubu on Monday suspended amidst allegations of financial impropriety rocking the Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Ministry.
Speaking on Monday evening when he was featured on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Interior minister had said “I am not a signatory to the company. As I’ve always said, I came into public office with a commitment to base my service on sincerity of purpose and openness. I believe that Nigerians don’t deserve to be kept in the dark in terms of public office operations.”
While admitting to founding the company alongside his wife, the minister claimed he resigned from the company five years ago owing to his political ambition.
“And actually, I was shocked because the company in question was a company where I was a director. About five years ago, I resigned from my directorship.
“I and my wife and I founded the company 15 years years ago. Well, in 2019, when I got to the House of Representatives when I won the election precisely, I made a change. I had resigned as director of the company to hold office”, the minister added.
