February 11, (THEWILL) – 8,769 students will graduate at the 39th Convocation of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), which will take place from February 12 to 15.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sagir Abbas, disclosed this on Monday while addressing Journalists about preparations for hosting the event.
Abbas said the convocation would be held in a staggered manner from Wednesday, February 12, to Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Abbas said the event promises to be a momentous occasion, honouring the achievements of its students and distinguished individuals.
He said the first day of the ceremony would see 4,402 graduates from 11 faculties receiving their degrees, diplomas and certificates.
“This marks a significant achievement for the university, which has been committed to providing quality education to its students”, he said.
He said 4,367 graduates from seven faculties would graduate on the second day of the event.
“The highlights of this day include: 176 First Class degrees, 275 PhDs, 2,590 Masters Degrees and 535 Postgraduate Diplomas.
“These impressive numbers demonstrate the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its students’ hard work and dedication”, the vice chancellor said.
He also disclosed that the Convocation Lecture would be delivered by Khalil Sulaiman Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NACENI and the title of the lecture is “Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A Pathway to National Development.”
“The Chairman of the Convocation Lecture is the Hon. Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Jeofrey Nnaji.
On the last day of the ceremony, he said, the university would confer Honorary Degrees on two distinguished Nigerians, former Governor of Kano State, Col. Sani Bello (rtd) and Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, a Kano-based business mogul and philanthropist.
“Additionally, the 39th Convocation will witness the awarding of Emeritus Professor titles to three distinguished retired Professors.
“These are Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, Professor Julius Afolabi Falola and Professor Musa Mohammed Borodo”, Abbas added.
