BEVERLY HILLS, March 01, (THEWILL) –Â It was drama all the way as the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, screened an 82-year-old non-career ambassadorial nominee, Justice Sylvanus Nsofor (retd.).
The ambassadorial nominee vehemently refused to recite the National Anthem as requested by the committee which shocked members of the committee.
The nominee is one of the 46 on the ‘reviewed list’ for whom President Muhammadu Buhari was seeking legislative approval for their appointment.
He was asked series of questions, which he responded to but when a member of the committee, Senator Gbenga Ashafa (Lagos East), asked Justice Nsofor to recite the National Anthem he refused asking the lawmakers why he should do so.
Nsofor, after engaging the lawmakers in arguments, was eventually asked to take a bow and leave the venue.
Nsofor was born on March 17, 1935,‎ in Oguta, Imo State.
He was a one-time Judge of the High Court of Nigeria, Justice of the Court of Appeal, and Lecturer in Law, Holborn College of Law, London‎.
Meanwhile, another ambassadorial nominee, Adeyinka Olatokunbo Asekun, unlike Nsofor answered all the questions posed to him by members of the committee.
His name was promptly forwarded to the Senate by the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo for confirmation for ambassadorial posting.
Asekun, who had a stint as a retail banker, was educated at the Wisconsin University and California State University, both in the United States of America.
