Rivers lawmakers

December 20, (THEWILL) – The defected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, have withdrawn their impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

THEWILL reports that the development followed the peace pact reached on Monday night, in Abuja.

Initiated by President Bola Tinubu, one of the 8-point resolutions, had directed the Amaewhule-led lawmakers loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to halt all impeachment moves against Governor Fubara.

The lawmakers had dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that forced the Fubara-led Rivers State Government to demolish the State House of Assembly complex on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt.

Moving a notice of withdrawal at the plenary session of the House on Wednesday, the lawmakers, said the decision was made out of respect for President Tinubu.

The lawmakers had on October 30, commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.
