April 24, (THEWILL) – Nigeria filmmaker and director, Joshua Ojo, is set to unveil a biopic on Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka. The film, according to him, captures the life and strides of the legendary Nobel Laureate.
The movie, which took over a year to produce, has been described as ‘right on time’ by the producer, Ojo.
Speaking about the film, he remarked that the lack of biopics in the Nigeria entertainment space is very alarming, explaining that at a time when history was no longer taught in schools, it should be on the screen for the sake of the next generation and a proper build up of the society.
“Wole Soyinka is coming to the cinemas on/before June. We are done with production and just rounding off post-production. I’ll be sincere that it took a lot to create this. A lot of research, and investigation. But then, if we don’t tell these stories, who would? Our people run away from telling our own historic stories. We documented every integral aspect of Wole Soyinka”, he noted.
The graduate of New York film Academy added that the choice of Yoruba language is that no movie has been nominated for an Oscar Award with Yoruba language because he intends submitting for the award. “Also Professor Wole Soyinka is a national figure, whether it’s Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba, people would still love to see it.”
Joshua Ojo is a popular Nigerian Filmmaker, actor and film director. He can be said to be one of Nigeria’s most hardworking and successful movie producers. He started on a TV series sponsored by USAID. He also featured in the popular family soap ”Fuji House of Commotion”. The actor, producer and director has featured in different movies, TV series and TV commercials.
