April 01, (THEWILL) – Heavily armed men on Friday morning, attacked the Mbieri Divisional Police Headquarters in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

Local resident sources, said the Police facility was attacked around 3am on Friday.

An indigene of Mbieri, who lives near the police divisional headquarters said the incident was “frightening.”

The source said, “We didn’t sleep last night. They arrived around 3am and the sounds of gunshots kept us awake till dawn. This is so scary.”

Another source said, the hoodlums threw explosive devices at the police station.

He said, “The armed robbers bombed the police station, but luckily it was not maximum destruction. The whole building was not affected. Part of the roof was affected.”

The attack is the fifth incident in a renewed hostility on police facilities in the State in a month.

Gunmen, had burnt Okwelle, Omuma, Isu and Umuguma Divisional Police Headquarters, killing two policemen, burning several vehicles and releasing inmates in the last one month in the state.

Cinfirming the latest incident, Spokesperson for the command, Micheal Abattam, said the attackers threw petrol bombs.

Maintaining that it was a foiled attack, Abattam said, only a part of the roof and one vehicle were affected; adding that investigation had commenced with a view to arresting the suspects
