SAN FRANCISCO, August 16, (THEWILL) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Friday announced the registration of two new political parties in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as Amended) and the Electoral Act 2010 (as Amended).
The new political parties are the Independent Democrats (ID) and the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), promoted by associates’ of former vice president Atiku Abubakar.
INEC in a statement said, “The Constitution, Manifesto, Logo/Flag and list of National Executive Officers of each party have also been approved by the Commission.”
THEWILL recalls that the PDM was founded by late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua during the 1992 presidential race under the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida.
The former vice president who recently complained about being marginalised in the PDP, is expected to emerge as the presidential candidate of the PDM for the 2015 elections.
