March 15, (THEWILL) – The Imo State Police Command has summoned the former governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha, over alleged murder, kidnapping and arson.
Also summoned were Ihedioha’s deputy, Gerald Irona and the spokesman for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Ikenga Ugochinyere.
Former Governor, Ihedioha, Irona, as well as Ugochinyere, are all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State.
The Police invitation is coming just four days before the gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections in the state.
On Tuesday, Laz Okoroafor-Anyanwu, a former commissioner for Transport under the administration of former Governor Rochas Okorocha, was sentenced to three years imprisonment (without an option of fine) over fraud allegations committed between 2015 and 2019.
However, the latest police invitation to former governor, Ihedioha, his deputy and Ugochinyere, according to a letter addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Charles Ugwu, is in connection to alleged murder, kidnapping and arson.
The letter by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Ukachi Opara, said, “The office of State Intelligence Bureau, Imo State Police Command, state Headquarters Owerri, is investigating the above-underlined case involving some prominent members of Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State chapter.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command requests you come along with the following persons, Emeka Ihedioha, Ugochinyere Ikenga Imo, Gerald Irona, to interview the commissioner of police, through the officer in charge of State Intelligence Bureau, Owerri date Thursday, March 16, 2023, time 10:00 prompt.”
The spokesperson for the PDP in the state, Collins Opuruozor and the party’s legal adviser, Kissinger Ikeokwu, confirmed the authenticity of the police invitation.
