February 25, (THEWILL) – West Africa’s largest carrier, Air Peace, has refuted reports alleging that its Chairman/CEO, Dr. Allen Onyema, was “stranded” for over 24 hours at the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport due to the facility’s lack of navigational aids.
In a statement on Tuesday, the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Ejike Head, clarified that the aircraft scheduled to pick up Onyema and his team on Saturday evening was unable to land due to heavy rainfall, which compromised visibility.
As a precautionary safety measure, the flight was rerouted back to Lagos—an industry-standard procedure when weather conditions are unfavorable, the statement added.
The airline dismissed claims that its operations were compromised, stressing that at no point did any Air Peace aircraft engage in unsafe practices.
“Air Peace upholds the highest international aviation safety standards, with safety as our top priority,” the airline stated.
Expressing disappointment over what it described as “deliberate misinformation,” Air Peace criticized the media reports for misrepresenting the incident despite having access to the correct details.
“This reckless journalism not only misinforms the public but also attempts to tarnish the reputation of Nigeria’s leading airline,” the statement read.
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to safe and efficient operations, assuring passengers that safety remains a fundamental principle in all its activities.
