July 06, (THEWILL) — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the late business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, as a rare phenomenon and an outstanding philanthropist whose demise will be felt deeply across Nigeria’s business landscape and among its citizens.
Atiku stated this during a condolence visit to Kano on Sunday, where he met with the family of the late patriarch and the state government to express his sympathies.
The former Vice President first visited Dantata’s residence at Koki quarters in Kano Municipality, where he was received by family members.
He offered prayers for Allah’s forgiveness and eternal mercy on the departed elder statesman.
“Alhaji Aminu Dantata was a phenomenon in every sense of the word,” Atiku said.
“He was a man whose legacy of philanthropy, enterprise, and generosity transcended Nigeria’s borders. He has left a void that will be difficult to fill.”
Atiku, who is also the leader of the recently launched opposition coalition, later visited Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Government House to extend condolences to the people and government of Kano State.
He noted that Dantata’s contributions to the socio-economic development of Nigeria, particularly through commerce and charity, marked him as a national figure who embodied the spirit of unity and selfless service.
“He combined the values of the past and the innovation of the present. As a detribalised Nigerian, his philanthropy knew no boundaries. His life was one of service to humanity,” Atiku said.
He urged the Dantata family and the people of Kano to take solace in the remarkable life the deceased lived and to sustain his legacy of compassion and nation-building.
Responding, Governor Yusuf and family members of the late Dantata expressed gratitude to the former Vice President for the visit and solidarity during their time of grief.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata passed away on Friday, June 29, 2025, at the age of 94 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He was buried at the revered Al-Baqi Cemetery in Madina, Saudi Arabia, after funeral prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque.
His burial drew tributes, special prayers, and the presence of dignitaries from across Nigeria, marking the passing of one of the country’s most respected industrialists and philanthropists.
