… As party threatens to sanction Uba For Indiscipline
SAN FRANCISCO, August 26, (THEWILL) – The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Monday declared Mr. Tony Nwoye, as the authentic candidate of the party for the November 16, 2013, governorship election, ahead of Senator Andy Uba, the winner of the primary conducted by a faction of the PDP in Anambra State.
Tukur spoke at the national office of the party in Abuja when the chairman of the Anambra State congress committee and Katsina State Governor, Mr. Ibrahim Shema, tendered the report of the primary it monitored to the national working committee (NWC).
He thanked Shema and his committee for their service and transparency in the conduct of the primary declaring, “Go and tell the world that Tony Nwoye is the candidate of the PDP in the November 16 election.”
Meanwhile, the PDP may sanction Senator Andy Uba, over the primary conducted by the faction of the party loyal to him. Uba emerged winner of the primary staged by the Ejike Oguebego chaired faction of the party with 645 votes.
INEC and a High Court have both declared the Oguebego faction of the party as the authentic Anambra State executive while the national headquarters of the PDP has endorsed the Kenneth Emeakayi faction as the undisputed Anambra chapter whose primary produced Tony Nwoye as candidate.
The acting National Organising Secretary of PDP, Hamisu Abubakar, told reporters at the party’s Abuja headquarters that Uba would be punished for acts of indiscipline and misconduct.
Abubakar was however not specific on the kind of sanction Uba may be handed.
The PDP will this weekend hold its mini-national convention in Abuja where it is expected to elect officers for the vacant positions in its national headquarters.
