October 09, (THEWILL) — Air Peace has dismissed reports suggesting that its Chairman, Dr. Allen Onyema, made false claims regarding the payment for land designated for the airline’s Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Anambra State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the airline described the allegations, attributed to the Traditional Ruler of Umueri Community, Igwe Emeka, as unfounded and misleading.
Air Peace clarified that neither Dr. Onyema nor the company ever accused the Umueri Community of wrongdoing or made any statement implying a land dispute, refusal of allocation, or receipt of funds by the community.
“The Igwe’s media release is unprovoked, baseless, and entirely misplaced,” the statement read.
The airline further explained that all dealings concerning the MRO project were conducted directly with the then Anambra State Government, not with any individual or community.
It stated that payment for the designated land was made to the state government, which issued an official receipt for ₦100 million on August 26, 2021, confirming the transaction.
“In addition, a Certificate of Occupancy covering the same parcel of land was issued on September 14, 2021, thereby completing the legitimate process of allocation and ownership,” Air Peace stated.
The company emphasised that Dr. Onyema’s reputation for integrity and transparency remains unquestionable, noting that the false publication was a deliberate attempt to malign his character.
“Dr. Onyema does not lie about anything. His record of service to Nigeria and commitment to national development speak for themselves,” the statement added.
Air Peace reaffirmed its commitment to the successful delivery of the MRO project, describing it as a patriotic initiative designed to create jobs, boost the aviation sector, and establish Nigeria as a hub for aircraft maintenance in Africa.
“The airline remains focused on driving positive change, empowering Nigerians, and promoting excellence in all areas of operation while ignoring distractions from unfounded claims,” the statement concluded.
