Another Batch Of 129 Nigerians Fleeing Sudan Arrive Abuja

May 08, (THEWILL) – The returnees arrived on Monday, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, on board the Tarco Airlines from Port Sudan

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) confirmed their arrival in a statement.

“The 8th batch of Evacuees: 129 Nationals that departed Port Sudan International Airport, landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 9:25 am local time on May 8, via Tarco Air,” NIDCOM said on Twitter.

Comprising 124 adults and five infants, they were received by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Others include operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the military.

Upon their arrival at 9:15am, the returnees were processed by officials, with the filling of the returnee registration forms handed to them by government officials.

Meanwhile, NIDCOM said a total of 1,600 Nigerians have been evacuated and returned to Nigeria from Sudan.

It said the evacuees were brought back to the country by the Nigerian Government with the assistance of some private airlines and organisations.

“The good news is, no Nigerian life has been lost so far,” NiDCOM wrote in a tweet.

The breakdown of the evacuation by NiDCOM showed that in the first and second batches, a total of 376 people were returned by Military Jet C13H and Air Peace Flight, while Tarco Air brought in 130 people in the third batch.

Also, Tarco Air airlifted 131 in the fourth batch while Max Air brought in 410 in the fifth batch and Tarco Air and Azman Air brought in 102 and 322 people respectively in the sixth and seventh batches.
