Update: *** The 4-year old lion has been shot dead by the police after it turned hostile and refused to return to its cage. The killing was greeted with outrage by the public. They argue that the animal should have been tranquillised instead.
SAN FRANCISCO, December 03, (THEWILL) – The Jos Wild life Park has engaged retired marksmen to recapture the lion that escaped from its cage, Wednesday morning, Mr. John Doy, Acting General Manager, Plateau Tourism Corporation, has said.
Doy said the animal slipped out while being fed in the morning.
“I believe it’s still within the vicinity of the park.”
“The marksmen are moving around trying to recapture the lion. Many strategies, including using nets, are being used to cage and capture it”, he said.
He added that personnel from other security agencies were also helping in the effort.
Doy said the situation had created much anxiety in the Rantya community where the facility was located.
