April 12, (THEWILL) – The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sam Anyanwu, has emerged as the party’s governorship candidate for the November 11 governorship election in Imo state.

The Imo PDP primary election was conducted on Wednesday, at the party’s secretariat along the Okigwe Road, in Owerri, the State capital.

Lawrence Biado, the State Organising Secretary of the party, said a seven-man electoral panel constituted by the National Working Committee (NWC), headed by Kenneth Okon, was present to monitor the primary election.

Former Governor of the State, Emeka Ihedioha, was, however, absent during the exercise.

Ihedioha had weeks ago pulled out from the Imo PDP governorship race, adding that he agreed to a consensus arrangement to enable the party present a formidable opposition to the incumbent Governor, Hope Uzodimma.

Anyanwu is expected to challenge the reelection of Governor Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
