SAN FRANCISCO, June 13, (THEWILL) – The Appeal Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Saturday upheld the disqualification of Governor Godwin Obaseki from participating in its governorship primary in Edo state.
The committee in a briefing at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, said it agreed with the decision of the screening panel, which Friday disqualified the governor because it could not vouch for the authenticity of the NYSC Certificate he presented, whilst also citing anti-party activities.
THEWILL reports that Obaseki had rejected the decision of the screening panel on Friday, saying he would not appeal it. He said National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole with whom he has engaged in a protracted squabble for control of power in their state, is using the process to block his re-election bid.
THEWILL reports that Obaseki has left the party for the main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
