SAN FRANCISCO, February 26, (THEWILL) –Â The Committee set up by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to investigate the crisis the Kaduna State chapter of the party has visited the state and called for calm.
THEWILL recalls that the crisis in the Kaduna APC has been on for some time with a power tussle between the state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai and Senator Shehu Sani leading to the latter’s suspension in 2016, and the Governor against another Senator, Suleiman Hunkuyi.
A faction of the party, supported by Hunkuyi had also emerged but its secretariat building which incidentally belongs to Hunkuyi was demolished by the Kaduna State government which insisted that its action was not politically motivated.
Visiting the state, APC Deputy National Chairman (South) and former governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, in company with other members of the committee called on all parties in the disagreement to maintain utmost decorum and give an opportunity for true reconciliation.
The Committee also visited the demolished secretariat of the Hunkuyi faction and assured all the parties involved in the crisis of their commitment to doing a thorough job.
Members of the Committee were scheduled to meet with the faction loyal to senators Suleiman Hunkuyi but the meeting was stalled due to the late arrival of the Committee. However, upon arrival, Senator Hunkuyi conducted them around the premises of the demolished building.
Addressing reporters after the inspection, Oni explained that they were on a mere fact-finding mission to Kaduna State with a view to identifying the remote and immediate causes of the disagreement adding that they were also in the state to unravel the circumstance that led to the demolition of Senator Hunkuyi’s house, which served as a secretariat for the faction.
He revealed that the report of their finding would be submitted to the Presidential Committee led APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu, as a working document for its reconciliation process.
