June 06, (THEWILL) – Some governors of the northern states on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have once again called for power shift from the North to the South.
This was part of the outcome of a meeting between the state governors and President Muhammadu Buhari, held on Monday at the State House, Abuja.
THEWILL had reported that the meeting was held over the announcement of Senate President Ahmad Lawan by the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, as the preferred consensus presidential candidate of the party.
The governors, who opposed the development, had met the president for confirmation.
Led by the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, others in attendance include Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, Aminu Masari of Katsina, Abubakar Bello of Niger, Sule Abdullahi of Nasarawa, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, Inuwa Yahaya of Gomber, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe.
Briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting, Lalong said that President Buhari had not anointed any of the presidential aspirants as the flag bearer of the party.
He said the President requested the governors to have a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to resolve the issue of consensus candidate through democratic means.
Lalong said the governors told the president of their decision to ensure that power returns to the South for the sake of equity and unity of the country.
