November 28, (THEWILL) – The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has nullified the election of Jamilu Umaru Dahiru Barade, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Bauchi Central State Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
Hon. Barade is the Deputy Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
A three-man panel of Justices of the appellate court, in its judgment on Monday, nullified the judgment of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, which earlier affirmed his victory in the March 18th State Assembly Election for Bauchi Central State Constituency.
Consequently, the panel ordered rerun elections in some polling units in the constituency, where the appellant, Aliyu Abdullahi Ilela of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleged over-voting.
The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to retrieve the Certificate of Return earlier issued to the Deputy Speaker and conduct a rerun election in the affected polling units.
THEWILL earlier reported that the appellate court had on Friday, sacked the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Sulaiman.
