October 09, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army has established a School of Cyber Warfare in Abuja.
A statement by the Army Director of Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, said the school, Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare School (NACWS) was inaugurated on the 8th of October, 2021, in Abuja.
The NACWS shall specifically focus on issues of insecurity and territorial warfare in cyberspace.
To meet its target, a Digital Literacy Internet and Core Computing Certification Course had been introduced with Basic Cyber Laboratory for the school.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, at the inaugural event, said modern battles now affect cyberspace.
Part of the statement read, “The COAS, who was represented by the Director General, Land Forces Simulation Centre, Major General Felix Omoigui said this development has brought to the fore the need to properly defend the territorial integrity of the nation in cyberspace. Hence, the establishment of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command.
“According to him, NACWC and other cyber affiliated formations were established to combat cyber threats and cybercrimes within the Nigerian Army sphere of influence
“However, he said there is a need for requisite manpower to effectively operate in that space. This he further said, is necessary to build capacity that will enhance the proficiency of personnel to counter these threats.”
The Commandant of the NACWC, Brigadier General Adewale Adetoba,stated that a total of 20 students will undergo the IC3 course. He addied that it is a global benchmark for basic computer literacy and specialist certification.
