SAN FRANCISCO, September 03, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army has retired 10 senior officers of the rank of Major General.
The retirement according to military sources who spoke to the local media anonymously was routine as some of the officers had clocked the statutory 35 years in service while others were retired because of the disparity between their age and rank.
While some of the officers have retired and left the army, some others are scheduled to leave this quarter.
Some senior officers in the rank of Brigadier General and Colonel are also expected to be handed retirement letters using the same benchmark.
Major General Lawrence Ngugbane, the ex-Director of Training and Operations, Defence Hq; Major General Babagana Mungonu, the ex-Commandant of the Training, Doctrine and Command (TRADOC) Minna; and Major General Obinali Ariahu, the ex-Chief of Research and Development, have retired and left the army, according to reports.
Major General Isang, a former Chief of Nigerian Army Standard and Evaluation has been transferred to the Defence Headquarters as the new Director of Training and Operations, while Major General Mohammed Abdukadir, a former Force Commander of AFISMA, Mali has been assigned to TRADOC as new Commandant.
Some other senior officers scheduled to retire this quarter include Major General E. E. Bassey, the Chief of Policy and Plans, Army Hq; and Major General Emeka Onwuamaegbu, the respected Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
