July 09, (THEWILL) – The Police  on Thursday  said the Special Adviser to the Cross River State Governor  on Cocoa Development and Control, Oscar Ofuka, was arrested  by security operatives.

THEWILL had  reported that Ofuka was abducted by gunmen on Tuesday  at the premises of the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation where he was scheduled to begin the distribution of cocoa seedling to farmers in the Southern Senatorial District of the state.

Some workers of the media corporation, where Ofuka was picked up in a commando-style, were threatened by the gun-wielding men who sped off with the victim in a red Ford pickup truck.

However, the Cross River State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the development on Thursday evening in Calabar, blamed the mistaken conclusion of abduction on the operational style when the Governor’s aide was arrested.

DSP Ugbo said,  the urgent intervention by the state Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande led to the interception of the operatives  at Jonathan Bypass as they were speeding away with Ofuka.

They were discovered  to be police operatives and  brought back to the command for proper documentation before he was eventually moved to Lagos.

She said, “They (police) have taken him to Lagos. They came for what the police call investigation activities. They came for him based on a petition against him.”
