May 30, (THEWILL) – Suspected arsonists on Monday, attacked the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Awada, Onitsha station.

The attackers reportedly stormed the station some few minutes after 4:00am, burning a building and two vehicles; a company bus and another vehicle belonging to a staff member who had worked overnight.

A staff member at the station, who pleaded anonymity, said he witnessed the attack, having worked all night.

He said: ā€œThere was an attack. In fact, one of the gunmen ordered another to kill those present, but he refused and we were mercilessly flogged.

ā€œTwo vehicles were burnt, the Studio was equally torched, including a mattress belonging to one of the staff.ā€

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said it was a case of arson.

He said, ā€œFollowing a distress call today 30/5/2022, at about 4:30am of a case of arson in Anambra State Broadcasting Station, Idemili North, the Police Operatives responded swiftly and prevented the hoodlums from causing damage to the structure.

ā€œUnfortunately two of the operational vehicles belonging to the station were affected. No life was lost.

ā€œMeanwhile, the station has been cordoned off and operation is still ongoing in the area. Further development shall be communicated.ā€
