May 25 (THEWILL) — Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, secured a landslide victory in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential election held in Sokoto State.
Atiku clinched 68,823 votes to emerge with the highest number of votes from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
The State’s Chief Returning Officer for the polls, Prof. Aminu Abubakar Illela, said the former Minister of Transportation and erstwhile governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, got 292 votes, while Alhaji Mohammed Hayatuddeen got 319 votes.
“I, therefore, hereby declare Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate with the highest number of votes in Sokoto State out of the total number of 69,434 total number of votes cast”, Illela declared.
The collation was attended by former Governor of the state, Sen. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, as well as the party’s governorship candidate, Alhaji Manir Dan-Iya.
Others were the party’s Senatorial Candidates for Sokoto South and North Senatorial Districts, Amb. Faruk Malami Yabo and Alhaji Mani Maishonko, respectively, the state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu and other chieftains.
