July 29, (THEWILL) – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Murtala Mohammed Airport Two (MMA2), Air Peace, Ethiopian Airline and the Commissioner/CEO, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) have won different categories of awards at the just concluded 25th edition of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents Conference/Awards held at Sheraton Hotel on 28th July, 2021.
FAANÂ won “Lateef Lawal Award for Airports Manager of The Year”, while MMA2 went home with “Most COVID-19 Compliant Terminal.
Air Peace went home with “Humanitarian Airline of The Year 2020”, just as Ethiopian Airline won “Covid-19 Most Innovative Carrier”.
Also, the Commissioner/CEO of AIB, Engr Akin Olateru won “CEO of The Year 2020″ award.
The five categories of the awards were presented to the awardees at the LAAC’s conference with the theme: Nigeria’s Aviation Industry: Management, Policy and Regulation.
According to LAAC, FAAN was given their award based on the Authority’s efforts in efficient management of all the airports under their care.
Air Peace, Spokesperson, Mr Stanley Olisa, while receiving their award commended LAAC, stating that such recognition will definitely spur the airline to do more.
Also Mr Shimeless Arange, GM, Ethiopian Airline Nigeria received the Ethiopian Airline award alongside Mr Ikechi Uko, Organiser, Akwaaba African Travel Market,on behalf of the airline.
Mr Arange in his acceptance speech, equally commended LAAC, stating that the recognition is a plus for the East African carrier.
The award, which was presented to BASL on behalf of LAAC by Mallam Adamu Abdullahi, the Executive Commissioner (Operations), Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council, (FCCPC), according to the league was in recognition of the high level of safety protocols put in place by BASL in its operations as mandated by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19.
Responding, the Group Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. Mikail Mumuni, who received the award on behalf of BASL, heartily expressed the company’s appreciation to the League, saying it signifies an endorsement of Bi-Courtney’s contribution to making the nation’s aviation sector safer.
He said, “We are pleased to receive this award from the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents. We see this as an endorsement of our contribution and commitment to the upliftment of the aviation industry.”
There were goodwill messages from top CEOs and other captains of industries, majority of those who lauded the initiatives of LAAC for organising such an event at an auspicious time like this where topical issues are dissected – all for the sustainability and development of the aviation sector.
The programme was attended by top officials of the Federal Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria (AIB-N), Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), and other aviation stakeholders.
In addition, lawmakers including Smart Adeyemi, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation and Chairman, House Committee on Aviation, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji graced the occasion.
Meanwhile, the 25th LAAC Conference and Awards, 2021 was well attended by aviation industry professionals; physically and virtually, cutting across the aviation agencies, security agencies, international and domestic airlines operating in Nigeria, aviation support services, travel trade sellers and buyers and captains of the aviation industry in Nigeria.
