December 02, (THEWILL) — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State says he has sought President Bola Tinubu’s intervention over the rising insecurity in parts of the state.
The governor raised the alarm over renewed cases of banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities carried out by attackers crossing into Kano from neighbouring Katsina State.
Yusuf disclosed this while addressing residents of Faruruwa village in Shanono Local Government Area, one of the communities recently attacked by bandits.
He said he briefed President Tinubu on the situation and submitted complaints from affected communities, including photographs showing the scale of destruction.
According to him, President Tinubu responded immediately by directing the Chief of Army Staff to take action, leading to the deployment of troops to the troubled areas.
The governor noted that the troops are now working alongside personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, the police, and other security agencies under a Joint Task Force to contain the security breaches.
He added that the state government is providing full support to the security operatives to “nip the challenges in the bud.”
Earlier while addressing the deployed troops, Yusuf described the infiltration of bandits into Kano as unfortunate, noting that the state remains one of the most peaceful in the North.
He commended the security personnel for their commitment and gallantry in restoring calm to the affected communities.
