October 17, (THEWILL) – At least nine members of a local vigilante group popularly known as ‘Yan Ba Beli’ in Bauchi State, have been killed by suspected bandits on Sunday.
The vigilantes were killed in a forest in Gamji village while searching for bandits, who have been terrorising the communities in Ningi Local Government Area of the State.
A source in the area told newsmen that the bandits ambushed the vigilantes and killed nine of them while others escaped with injuries late Sunday evening while climbing the mountain around Gamji village.
The Caretaker Chairman of Ningi LGA, Ibrahim Zubairu Mato, confirmed the attack.
The Bauchi State Police Command has not issued any statement on the incident.
