February 25, (THEWILL) – Major streets of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, were virtually empty and devoid of the usual movement of vehicles with few persons moving and tricycle riders trying to make money before the commencement of voting.
As early as 7:30a.m, security operatives had arrived at Akenpai-Epie, ostensibly trying to locate the polling units in the area but were taken to the Community Chief’s residence.
While at Amarata, within the Yenagoa metropolis, voters and security men were eagerly awaiting the arrival of INEC officials and materials at the Fukulu polling unit.
Also monitored was the RAC ( Registration Area Centre) where it was confirmed that election materials had arrived but awaiting vehicles that will transport them to their designated polling units. Therefore, late arrival of materials cannot be ruled out.
However, security agents were seen doing their jobs diligently and professionally, while stores remained closed except for local food vendors, who were seen and patronised.
Before leaving Atissa ward 4, Yenagoa for Sampou, the hometown of the State Governor, Sen. Douye Diri, at 8:56 am, the state capital remained peaceful.
