NGX-Equities Market -Stocks-Sell off

June 04, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian equities market closed lower on Thursday as persistent selling pressure outweighed bargain hunting in selected stocks, dragging key performance indicators further into negative territory.

Market capitalisation declined by ₦580 billion, falling from ₦155.939 trillion at the open to ₦155.359 trillion at the close.

Similarly, the NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 905.30 points to settle at 242,227.31, compared to 243,132.61 recorded at the previous session’s close.

Market breadth remained negative as 30 stocks recorded losses against 25 gainers, reflecting cautious investor sentiment across the market.

• INTENEGINS gained 10.00 percent (to close at ₦6.60 from ₦6.00).
• OMATEK advanced 9.73 percent (to ₦2.03 from ₦1.85).
• ABBEYBDS appreciated 9.68 percent (to ₦8.50 from ₦7.75).
• CUTIX rose 9.66 percent (to ₦3.18 from ₦2.90).
• JOHNHOLT added 7.97 percent (to close at ₦14.90 from ₦13.80).

Top Decliners

• MCNICHOLS fell 10.00 percent (to ₦7.74 from ₦8.60).
• ABCTRANS declined 9.88 percent (to ₦6.20 from ₦6.88).
• ETERNA lost 9.85 percent (to close at ₦29.75 from ₦33.00).
• ARADEL shed 9.51 percent (to ₦1,749.90 from ₦1,933.80).
• NPFMCRFBK dropped 8.45 percent (to ₦5.20 from ₦5.68).

Meanwhile, several bellwether counters, including Dangote Cement Plc, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, Custodian Investment Plc, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, and Okomu Oil Palm Plc closed unchanged.

The session extended the market’s recent bearish trend, with investors continuing to rebalance portfolios amid profit-taking activities and cautious sentiment across key sectors.
