April 26, (THEWILL) – Operatives of Benue State Environmental Sanitation Authority (BENSESA), have arrested three teenage prostitutes, alongside a man, who was making love with one of their colleagues while they watched.
The General Manager of the Authority, Mr Solomon Onah, who led other officials on a routine inspection of shops, houses and other public places, as enshrined in the BENSESA Act, 2005, stumbled at the act in one of the shanties, along Awe street, Wurukum area of Makurdi, Benue state capital.
Mr Onah, speaking shortly after the inspection, expressed shock over what he saw, wondering why teenage girls will take to prostitution instead of engaging in educational pursuits that will benefit their lives and society.
“This is one case too many. In the inspection process, it was discovered that since teenage girls, about four of them, were seen with a man who was naked and making love with one of the girls, while the other three were watching it.
“Not just that, this incident was taking place in the afternoon. Everything about the house stricture flaunts the environmental sanitation laws of Benue State because there is no one toilet attached to it.”
According to Mr Onah, the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for proper action and warned youths engaging in such social activities to desist for their own good.
“The man who was romancing a teenager said he was enjoying himself with his girlfriend. This man has to answer questions too when NAPTIPS come in. If you look at the age difference between this man and the girls, you conclude that he was taking advantage of the teenage girls.”
The man lover, who gave his name as Israel, claimed that he was out and relaxing with his girlfriend, while one of the sex workers, Susan, said the hardship pushed her into the business to earn a living.
The proprietor of the shanty, Mr Ogbonna, who was also arrested, explained that he operates the place as a hotel and sells alcohol.
“Anybody can do a hotel. A hotel is a hotel, whether it is a butcher hotel. If it is not good, close it and not arrest people”, he lamented.
Items recovered in the shanty include condoms, rubber buckets containing faeces, and hot drinks.
