September 14, (THEWILL) – Nigeria has again been thrown into power outage after the national grid system, operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), from Osogbo in Osun State, collapsed on Thursday morning.
This is coming barely six hours after the grid collapsed midnight and minimally restored.
The General Manager, Public Affairs at the TCN, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed the development.
THEWILL reports that the grid, which initially suffered system collapse at 12:40AM midnight, was in the process of restoration, when it went down again at 6:41AM, crashing to 1.60 megawatts as of 7 am.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC), in a statement, said that “a total system collapse” occurred at 12:40 a.m. on Thursday.
“Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide service to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.
“We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo”, the company said in a statement signed by Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications.
Yola DisCos, which powers the Northeast, said their feeders are out of supply.
