SAN FRANCISCO, August 26, (THEWILL) – Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members, weekend, launched a fresh attack on Bama, the Borno commercial town that has been turned desolate by the activities of the insurgents.

In the fresh attack, THEWILL gathered that three persons were slaughtered while eight others were injured as the terrorists, in an apparent change of strategy, resorted to the use of knives and machetes in the attack so as not to attract the attention of security men to the scene of the crime.

THEWILL reliably gathered that Bama, which is situated at some 64 kilometres away from Maiduguri, has now become the new haven of the Boko Haram gunmen after they have been chased away from Maiduguri, the state capital, and their other bush camps in the state.

A security source confirmed to journalists in Maiduguri on Monday that the terrorists have, in deed, changed their tactics by using knives and machetes to slaughter their victims because of the feeling that gunshots will attract security agencies and vigilante youths to the scene to apprehend them.

Meanwhile, THEWILL can report that the remains of the three victims of the attack have been buried in the town, according to Islamic rites, while the injured ones have been taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for treatment.

The police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jubrin, and the military Joint Task Force (JTF) spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, could not be reached to confirm the latest attack due to the shutdown of telecommunication facilities in the state in the past three months.

However, an official of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), who confirmed the incident while speaking with journalists on condition of anonymity, also said the eight injured victims were responding to treatment at the hospital.
