January 09, (THEWILL) – Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced a donation of N300 million to support the families of soldiers who lost their lives in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.
The governor made this known on Wednesday while addressing journalists after attending the 2025 Multinational Joint Task Force Operation Desert Sanity 2 Medal Parade in N’Djamena, Chad Republic.
Zulum disclosed that the funds would be disbursed through the “Tribute to Our Troops Charity Foundation,” which was established to honour fallen heroes, celebrate serving soldiers safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity, and support the families of deceased soldiers.
“The Chief of Defence Staff has set up a foundation to address the welfare of the families of deceased soldiers and those wounded in action,” Zulum said.
He continued, “There is nothing more valuable we can do than this. These soldiers sacrificed their lives, paying the supreme price. We shall continue to support their families. If any state in Nigeria should support this foundation, it is Borno.”
The governor emphasized that while challenges persist, insurgency in the North East had significantly declined, attributing the progress to the relentless efforts of the military.
He urged the troops to intensify operations to completely eliminate remnants of Boko Haram across the Lake Chad region.
The MNJTF Medal Parade, initiated in 2017, recognizes troops who have made the ultimate sacrifice and appreciates the dedication of soldiers combating insurgents across countries in the Lake Chad Basin.
Zulum also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to addressing insecurity in the North East and across Nigeria.
“Let me commend President Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his leadership in motivating the troops and providing direction towards achieving lasting peace in Nigeria,” Zulum added.
