SAN FRANCISCO, November 17, (THEWILL) – Norway has pledged more assistance to the Borno State Government in rebuilding communities destroyed by Boko Haram and resettle displaced persons.
The pledge was made Tuesday in Maiduguri, the state capital, by the Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Rolf Ree.
“We will support efforts to return people to their homes. We will continue our support for the Save School Initiative and encourage international assistance toward the rebuilding of homes destroyed by Boko Haram,” he said.
The envoy, whose pledge came on a day the government announced that public schools in the state would re-open for academic work on Monday, Nov. 23, expressed the hope that Norway’s commitment and support would attract more humanitarian gesture for displaced persons in Borno and affected northeast states.
The State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, had earlier announced the re-opening of public schools which were shut-down at the peak of Boko Haram insurgency a year ago.
The governor said “we are glad to announce the re-opening of all Day Schools in the state on Monday 23rd of November, 2015.”
He praised Norway for committing $4 million to the Save School Initiative, saying the country was a fore-runner in support and humanitarian services to the states affected by insurgency.
