January 17, (THEWILL) – The power play within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed its first casualty, with the resignation of the Director General of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Dr Salihu Lukman.

THEWILL learnt that his resignation may not be unconnected with the crisis which has trailed the February National Convention of the APC.

Lukman had maintained a tough stance that the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) chaired by the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni and other members of the committee resigns if they are unable to conduct the national convention of the party tentatively in February.

THEWILL can reliably report that the decision to relieve Lukman of his duty was deliberated at the meeting of APC governors held on Sunday night at Kebbi Lodge in Abuja.

According to sources, a few of the governors had demanded that he be booted out for being too vocal.

Many of the governors were said to have kicked against the demand. They insisted that the erstwhile PGF boss should be allowed to continue to speak in his personal capacity as a chieftain of the party.

Efforts to get Lukman to react to the issue were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report, but sources at the PGF secretariat confirmed the development.

One party official said, “the PGF boss has done the right thing by acting according to his conscience.”
