May 31, (THEWILL) – Former President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why he will be unable to attend the Grand Finale of a Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in honour of the late mother of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hajiya Abibatu M. Tinubu.
The event, organised by Senator Basheer Lado, CON, is scheduled to take place today, Saturday, May 31, 2025, in Kano, with Buhari initially invited as Special Guest of Honour.
However, in a letter addressed to Senator Lado, the former President expressed regret over his inability to attend, citing a scheduled medical check-up abroad.
The letter, dated May 25, 2025, and signed by Ambassador Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure on Buhari’s behalf, was titled: “Office of Muhammadu Buhari, Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – Re: Invitation as Special Guest of Honour to Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Honour of Late Hajiya Abibatu M. Tinubu.”
“I am directed to refer to your letters dated April 12 and May 12, 2025, regarding the aforementioned subject. I regret to inform you that former President Muhammadu Buhari is unable to attend the event as previously agreed due to a scheduled medical check-up abroad,” the letter read.
Ambassador Kazaure added that Buhari extends his best wishes for a successful event and conveys his warm regards to President Bola Tinubu and the entire Tinubu family.
The former President also prayed for the continued repose of Hajiya Abibatu Tinubu’s soul in Jannatul Firdausi and asked Senator Lado to personally deliver his best wishes to President Tinubu.
