
September 21, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday joined the entertainment industry in Nigeria and world over to celebrate with legendary juju singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, King Sunny Ade, on his 75th birthday..
The president, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, extolled the courage, foresight and innovative spirit of King Sunny Ade, “who has since graduated into an authority in the literary and theatrical world, sharing his talent as a visiting Professor of Music at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife and championing many development causes.”
He added that King Sunny Ade’s several Grammy nominations shined the spotlight on Nigeria’s multi-talented artistes, creating opportunities for many nominations and an eventual win that further boosted the country’s image.
President Buhari, who emphasised the focus, discipline, business and administrative savvy that the guitarist and dancer introduced into the music industry in Nigeria, also lauded the music icon’s encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship skill in setting up a foundation to cater for budding talents.
As the multi-talented instrumentalist turns 75, President Buhari prayed for longer life and God’s blessings on his family.
However, it is not all joy in the home of King Sunny Ade as the news broke of his wife, Hon. Risikat Ajoke Adegeye’s death.
TheWILL reported that the deceased was married to the musician for 42 years before losing a long battle with cancer.
