August 20, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Yola, Adamawa State, to condole with the government and people over the death of former Permanent Secretary and an elder statesman, Ahmed Joda.
THEWILL reports that Joda died last Friday at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola.
The visit by the President to Yola was disclosed by presidential aide, Buhari Sallau, who shared a video on Facebook showing Buhari alighting from the presidential jet.
“President Muhammadu Buhari arrives Yola to condole with people and government of Adamawa State over the death of Alhaji Ahmed Joda OFR, CON, CFR (13 February 1930 – 13 August 2021),” Sallau captioned the video.
Buhari is also expected to first visit the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa, Mohammadu Aliu Barkin.
On ground to receive the President was the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintri; his Chief of Staff, Prof Maxwell Gidado; the Minister of the FCT, Mohammed Bello; heads of security agencies in the state and members of the State Executive Council.
Buhari had earlier in a condolence message, described the late Joda as a trustworthy and loyal companion “who steadfastly stood for the interest of the nation through highs and lows.”
He said his demise is a great loss to Adamawa State and the country at large.
Joda began his career as a journalist with the then Northern Broadcasting Corporation in Kaduna.
He had served as Chairman of the Buhari Transition Committee in 2015.
