August 06, (THEWILL) — The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the August 16 Remo Federal Constituency bye-election, Barr. Solomon Osho, has stated that he would consolidate on the bill seeking the creation of Ijebu province as an independent state out of Ogun State.
Osho made this known at the monthly guest forum on Tuesday, organised by the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta, saying that he could not overrule the possibility of electoral malpractices, but urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free, fair, credible election.
The bill, sponsored by the current Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, had already passed the first reading on the floor of the Red Chamber in the National Assembly.
Titled “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Six Alterations) Bill 2024 (Creation of Ijebu State) the bill was introduced by the Senate majority leader, Michael Bamidele of the All Progressive Congress (APC)
But Osho, while speaking at the forum in Abeokuta, said that if elected, he would work with Daniel to ensure the bill passed the final reading for the creation of Ijebu State.
He expressed confidence that with his experience in politics, he was not afraid to face candidates of the ruling APC and main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that ADC remains the party to beat in the forthcoming bye-election in the state.
“I will work with Senator Gbenga to ensure the creation of Ijebu State, over the time we have been on the creation of the state, because it was not the only province that has not been given a state”, Osho stated.
