March 17, (THEWILL) – Former Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has been sworn-in as the fifth democratically elected governor of Anambra State.
Soludo, who won the November 9 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was sworn-in during a low-key ceremony at the Government House in Awka, the state capital.
The professor of economics takes over from Willie Obiano, whose eight-year tenure expired on Thursday, March 17, 2022.
Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, administered the oath of office on Prof. Soludo as the new governor of the state at about 9:50am.
Before he was sworn in, his deputy, Dr Onyeka Ibezim, took his oath of office.
Prof. Soludo had at an earlier function announced that not more than 50 people will attend the event, as he intends that it will be brief enough to end on time and allow him space to move to Okpoko, where he intends to start work.
Meanwhile, a mild drama ensued on Thursday when the wife of outgoing Gov. Willie Obiano, Ebelechukwu, reportedly slapped Mrs Bianca Ojukwu at the event.
A NAN correspondent, who was at the scene of the event reports that the incident occurred immediately after Soludo took his oath of office.
THEWILL reports that dignitaries including Obiano were already seated when Mrs Obiano stepped in and moved to the front row, where the widow of Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu was seated and slapped her.
The action drew the attention of security agents and some personalities who pulled Mrs Obiano off the hold of Bianca, who was visibly shocked at the action.
Obiano who arrived in a convoy of cars, amidst cheers from Anambra people, trekked out of the venue of the swearing-in ceremony at exactly 9.55 am along with his wife, Ebelechukwu.
