BEVERLY HILLS, January 04, (THEWILL) – The Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has urged Christians and pastors to engage in intense prayer for Nigeria as the country was presently wading through very troubled waters economically, stressing that all hands must be on deck in the ongoing revival efforts
He lamented that the current economic situation in the country was so grave that nothing short of a miracle is required to turn things around for better within the shortest time possible.
The Governor spoke on Monday at the Cathedral of All Saints, Ughelli, Delta State, during the consecration of three bishops by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh.
He encouraged ministers of God not to succumb to the allure of power and fame in view of the special role their vocation demanded of them as dedicated servants of God and intercessors for the leaders as well as the people they govern.
While describing them as “the conscience of the state”, he stated that the Church ministers can not afford to be partisan or engage in condescending romance with the political and business classes.
The Governor, who congratulated the newly consecrated bishops and commended the church for its consistent support for his administration, he maintained that the church has a responsibility for the nation because of its intercessory role as “the spiritual controls the physical”.
According to him, “The Church is the conscience of the state; therefore, the man of God must not pursue after political patronage or engage in flirtatious relationship with political leaders such that they lose the moral authority to speak truth to power. Ministers of the gospel must resist the temptation to seek fame, fortune, and power at all costs.
“The state of our nation today is one that requires fervent, unceasing intercession, because the national economy is in dire straits and virtually all sectors of our national life are in limbo. Nigeria is today a nation in desperate need of prayer; it is going to take something miraculous or supernatural to turn the current situation around.”
