February 07, (THEWILL) – The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on Army Commanders to adopt innovative strategies that will enhance man-management and battle readiness within the Nigerian Army.
Speaking at the Army Headquarters Department of Army Transformation and Innovation Seminar on Lessons Learned Processes and Feedback Mechanism in Sokoto, Oluyede stressed that the continuous identification and application of lessons learned is key to reducing casualties and cutting operational costs.
Represented at the seminar by the Army’s Chief of Transformation and Innovation, Major General Olusegun Samson Abai, the COAS emphasised that the training was designed to rekindle critical thinking skills among all commanders—especially junior officers—through creative problem-solving and a rigorous review of past operational engagements.
“This initiative is in line with my command philosophy to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated and combat-ready force capable of discharging its constitutional responsibilities in a joint and multi-agency environment,” Oluyede said.
He commended the AHQ DATI for organising the event, noting that it equips the junior and middle cadre leadership with the tools needed to extract, collate, and analyze lessons, thereby enhancing both situational awareness and overall operational effectiveness.
Earlier in the session, Major General Abai, represented by Brigadier General Olayinka Are—the Deputy Director of Training and Examination Analysis—highlighted that the seminar was aimed at imparting a structured “Nigerian Army Lessons Learned Process/Feedback Mechanism” to the troops of the 8 Division.
He stressed that such an approach is vital to improve the behavioral and psychological resilience of the soldiers in the face of evolving operational challenges.
“The knowledge and strategies gained from this seminar will not only strengthen our leadership but also better position the Nigerian Army to meet future challenges head-on,” Abai stated.
