SAN FRANCISCO, June 07, (THEWILL) – Coming a day after the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan disclosed he is being investigated for corruption, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered that his cousin, Mr. Azibaola Robert be remanded in Kuje Prison pending the determination of his bail application.
Robert has been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, since March when he was invited for questioning over a $40m contract received from a former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki.
The anti-graft agency filed a seven-count charge against Robert and his wife, Stella, for allegedly using Oneplus Holding Limited, their company to get contracts from Dasuki. Stella was taken into custody on Monday ahead of the trial.
On Tuesday, the court ruled that Robert be remanded in custody till Wednesday when the suit he filed for bail would be heard.
While the court ruled that Stella could continue enjoying the administrative bail earlier granted her by the EFCC, the judge adjourned till Wednesday to rule on the bail application for Azibaola.
The immediate past president had told Bloomberg TV on Monday that he is being investigated for corruption by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
