BEVERLY HILLS, April 21, (THEWILL) – At least five state governors been have denied approval to fly out of their states following the coronavirus lockdown ordered by the federal government.
Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika in a daily briefing in Abuja Tuesday on the coronavirus and the closure of airports, said two of the governors are from the South-South, two from the South-East and one from the North-Central. He did not reveal the identity of the governors.
“… I have denied several of such flights including two governors from the South-South, two from the South-East and by the way, three of them are members of the All Progressives Congress. I think one is from North-Central.
“For a flight to be approved, it must show that it is diligently done. It must be essential, COVID-19 related or other essential flights like cargo that will bring in medicines or equipment or other things related to COVID-19 or our whole wellbeing like food. Also, some of them could be evacuation flights and those on diplomatic purposes.”
The Minister Monday extended the closure of Nigeria’s international airports by two weeks in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Nigeria’s major domestic carriers have shut down operations as a result of the deadly virus.
