SAN FRANCISCO, April 22, (THEWILL) – A Deputy Commissioner of Police in Edo State has died from coronavirus. His death was confirmed Wednesday by the Edo State Commissioner for Health, Mr. Patrick Okundia.
The 57 year-old deceased officer is the second death in the state from the deadly virus.
Okundia, who did not name the officer, said he died on Tuesday in his residence and did not make it to an isolation center.
“We had an unfortunate situation of a 57-year-old police officer, a lawyer who passed on on Tuesday. The story is not very clear how he got the infection but he developed some illnesses.
“Initially, there was no evidence of suspicion for Coronavirus disease but when the symptoms started getting worse he was treated at the Police clinic”.
The health commissioner said the state surveillance team was sent to his residence two days before he died to examine him and they did a swap for testing.
“He was placed on self isolation, however the result came out and it was positive. At the time, we could get to his house to move him out of his house, only to get there and discover that the man had died that same day,” Okundia said.
