BEVERLY HILLS, July 23, (THEWILL) – Suspected cyber-thief and ‘Instagram celebrity’, Ramon Abass Igbalode, aka Hushpuppi has been transferred to Los Angeles, California, as prosecutors move to secure his conviction for internet fraud believed to be in millions of dollars.
His lawyer, Gal Pissetzky, who claims he remains the suspect’s attorney, said Hushpuppi remains in prison in state custody after his bail demand was rejected by a magistrate.
“He is on his way to California, for trial. He has not been released and I am still his lawyer. Just because the jail record says ‘released’ does not mean he has been released. He is being transferred to California,” he told a Nigerian newspaper.
Hushpuppi, who has over 2 million followers on Instagram, is notorious for showing off expensive luxury vehicles, wristwatches and his high-roller lifestyle believed to be financed by proceeds of cyber fraud. He could serve up to 20 years in a federal prison if convicted.
