  • Dangote Industries is investing over $800 million to expand the Itori cement plant in Ogun State, doubling production capacity from six million to 12 million tonnes annually.

  • The expansion is expected to strengthen local cement supply, increase exports, generate foreign exchange earnings, and create more jobs across the value chain.

  • Dangote says the project aligns with its Vision 2030 production target and Nigeria’s industrialisation drive, supported by growing demand for concrete roads.

Aug 03, (THEWILL) — Dangote Industries Limited has committed more than $800 million to expand its cement plant in Itori, Ogun State, doubling the facility’s production capacity from six million to 12 million metric tonnes per annum as it positions for rising local demand and increased exports across Africa.

The investment follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Dangote Industries and Sinoma International Engineering Co. Ltd, the Chinese engineering firm that has partnered the group on several cement projects across the continent.

The agreement is expected to significantly strengthen Dangote Cement’s production capacity while reinforcing Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s leading cement manufacturing hubs.

Dangote said the decision to expand the Ogun facility was influenced by Nigeria’s renewed push to adopt concrete road construction and the company’s ambition to increase exports to other African markets under its Vision 2030 strategy.

According to him, the group aims to raise its total cement production capacity to between 90 million and 100 million metric tonnes annually.

He added that the expansion would enhance the company’s export capacity, generate foreign exchange earnings, create jobs and contribute to economic growth across the continent.

Dangote noted that the partnership with Sinoma has played a key role in delivering several world-class cement plants across Africa and expressed confidence that the latest investment would further accelerate Nigeria’s industrial development.
